Choose to See

Gospel, Matthew 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.

Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.

Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

I remember the story of a man asking God to save him from the raging flood. He was on the top of their roof already and everything is in chaos. The rain was still heavily pouring and the wind blew very strong making the trees bent.

He prayed, "Lord, take me out of here. I know you can save me. I know you can save me." He continued to pray until his neighbor arrived and reached a rope unto him. But the man neglected the help of his neighbor and said, " Thank you but I'm waiting for God's help." His neighbor left and he continued to pray.

He prayed again and again then, another neighbor arrived with his boat. His neighbor called him but again, he refused to step down into his neighbor's boat and said, "Thank you but I'm waiting for God's help." His neighbor left and he continued to pray.

Lastly, a helicopter arrived and the rescuer inside tried to pull him but again, he stubbornly refused. And the man died... thinking God didn't save him.

It's funny how sometimes we become the man in the story. Maybe, we may not experience the tragic situation of the man but somehow, there's a point in time that we are too blind to see the presence of the Lord in our lives.

The gospel for today speaks the mysterious power of the Lord- a power that is not seen with his own image, but the power of revealing himself to us in many ways. He revealed himself to Moses through the burning bush, and to others through the wind, clouds, etc. But the gospel tells us that the best revelation of the Lord was when He revealed himself through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

And because He is full of revelations, He continues to reveal himself to us through our parents, brothers and sisters, loved ones, friends, and even to the most unexpected persons that we encounter or meet everyday. *smiles* God reveals himself not only through the persons we encounter everyday but also through the things He allows us to see, feel or experience.

The gospel tells us to be child-like in seeing things so that we may able to see how the Lord reveals his self to us. We must choose to see Him for us to see Him. Let us not portray the image of the man in the story who thought that God didn't try to save him.

Now, look around you. Can you see God? Smile and say, "YES!"
